Meeting Point

On Bear Creek Rd, Orinda, between Briones Valley Rd and Happy Valley Rd, there is a parking lot for the Bear Creek Staging Area. There might not be any restrooms.  There should be one at the Overlook Staging Area on Bear Creek Rd, 1.7 mi from San Pablo Dam Rd.

GPS Coords: [masked],[masked]

Permit is not required if you are signed up. Counter-clockwise loop around Briones Lake.   Long but not a lot of elevation and mostly exposed. I'm hoping that weather remains cool, but make sure you have enough water, sunscreen etc.

Does it look like I could join this hike? How would I know if I can get off the waiting list and come???

    July 25, 2013

    • Edmond

There are 25 other people in the queue ahead of you with one more day to go so your chances are slim.

If anyone else needs a ride, feel free to email me as well. I have one comfortable space (and I guess technically two very uncomfortable ones) if anyone needs it.

This is a GREAT hike, and in fact we will be using the first part of this hike to start out the 5-day East Bay Hills Trails Benefit Hike this year!(That hike will continue to lunch at San Pablo Reservoir and then up to Inspiration Pt to camp in Tilden). I have done this route as quickly as 1 hour 38 minutes (on my horse), and about 4.75 hours hiking, and also taken as long as 6 hours, either way. I will be in Monterey while you are hiking, but you will not regret it if you sign up for this one. It is about 13.5 miles (says EBMUD) but relatively easy--no huge hills--and lots of bird life and wonderful views...

BART from Orinda is pretty nearby, and right next to the Orinda 24 off-ramp, so somebody ought to be able to do a pick up there...

  • Rene

Edmond, how long do you estimate the hike will take?

    July 17, 2013

  • Nancy

If, I get on I can do shuttle from Orinda BART.

    July 17, 2013

  • Philippe

Will confirm. don't know yet on which side of the Bay I will be. ;-)
    Thanks Edmond.
