Gilroy Garlic Festival Hike (6+ miles)

This is a non-BART hike trek.  Zero BART miles...a urban city walk and visit to Gilroy's largest park venue.

For those who like (or can tolerate) the following: food (especially garlic fries, garlic ice cream, ...), drink (especially beer, wine or lemonade), garlic, hot weather (high 80s), dust, garlic, haybales, horses, crowds of people (25,000+ thousand), dust, garlic, a festive music environment, hot weather, arts & craft shopping and/or walking or hiking this is the event for you...The 35th Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival...I hear one of the largest food festivals in the country...if this is your first time, come for the experience...

Actually, the forecast of high 80s is good considering at past festivals weather was in the 90s and 100s..be prepared with proper clothing, caps, sunblock and water...

We will meet between 9AM and 10AM at my place (422 Willy Ct, Gilroy CA 9520) - take Leavesley Rd from US101 heading west and take Murray Ave heading north and take Willy Ct heading east. Parking on Murray Ave and walking to my house would work well.

If you have questions or need to reach me, my number is [masked]-5798.

We will leave my place at 10ish and cross town (approx 3 miles - about 1 hour) to Christmas Hill Park. If you choose to meet at the park...good luck (so many vehicles and people every where). If you come from the north: my suggestion is to take Monterey Road to Leavesley Rd.

Overall, you will trek between 6-8 miles, depending how your paths within the venue, bring proper shoes (uneven turf surfaces)...

As this is a large event and big fundraiser for south county community groups there is an entry fee ($17, $15 online).

After enjoying the festival, we will trek back (approx 3 miles - about 1 hour) at 4ish to my place for an after event around the pool...

For those shoppers that want to shop afteward, the Gilroy Oulets is nearby...

Awesome garlic experience! Thanks Tom for providing us insights of Gilroy. Learned so much more about this place. People are super friendly here. And by the way nice urban hike! It's a pleasure walking in the shades of old tress on Miller Ave.
