B.A.R.T. _016X_2010 Joseph D. Grant County Park, NE Trail Loop ~12.4mi/2200ft

PLEASE NOTE THE START OF 10:30AM. THE HIKE IS ON EVEN IF IT'S RAINING. WE"VE DONE IT BEFORE. JUST REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR RAIN GEAR. WE ONLY CANCEL IF WE START SEEING LIGHTNING. IT'LL BE FUN. SEE YOU MOST OF YOU THERE I HOPE OR AT THE AFTER HIKE AT 5PM:)

There is ~10 mile Ridge Trail gap between the Grant park and the next dedicated section. So I will have two hikes to substitute fro this gap and this is one of them. On this BART substitute gap we return to Joseph D. Grant but will do trails in the northeast part of the park. Also, unlike last time, the park is likely to be green all over and not golden. THERE IS A $6 PARK ENTRY FEE AND SO BE PREPARED. Forecast: http://forecast.weath... My phone in case you get lost:[masked]
For some info on the park we hike on see the link below:
http://www.sccgov.org... The Hike: For a detailed map of the hiking route see below.

Parking & Meeting Point:
Travel to the park by taking Highway 101 or Highway 680 to Alum Rock Avenue eastbound in San Jose. Turn right onto Mt. Hamilton Road and travel eight miles to reach the park entrance. Please take note that the road is very narrow and windy and so drivers keep your eye on the road. Once you make a right into the park ($6 fee), park in the first parking lot on your left near the visitor center. My dark blue honda CRV should be around there. Look below for map location.

Wow... this was a chilling hike. =) As always, enjoyed the company and thanks to Peter E. for lending me the poncho. Definitely an adventure and ambitious hike this time. Really appreciate Hugo for doing the hike and braving the weather. =)

Rainy and cold! But now that I am warm and rested, it was fun, especially the last mile of navigating cow paths and gates (it is a real trail there just overgrown and rutted and yesterday quite slick) - Thanks Hugo for a great job and keeping all stragglers from geting lost. Met some new and cool people.

The rain and wind did arrive, but not as intense as I feared. Stayed reasonably dry and warm throughout the 12 mile hike. The views would have been amazing if it wasn't for the clouds. It was a very enjoyable hike with a gutsy group of fellow hikers. Thanks Hugo, and glad you were able to visit CA and plan this hike.

It looks like the rain/gusts will hit around 1:00 today. So, if it happens, it will happen in the middle of the hike.

Woohoo! Chance of rain has drooped down to 70%. Also I don't see a cloud in the sky right now. We may get lucky on this hike with minimal rain.

Oh yes expect some portions of the trails to be muddy

Expect rain, wind, and rain. So dress warmly and be prepared for a lot rain. If we get lucky we might even see some snow at the top.

Has anyone else noticed that this season the rain only seems to arrive on the weekends?

hahaha. 20 minutes in steady rain with "weatherproof" jacket may very well mean your shoulders are soaking wet. Poncho and water-repellent pants are desirable. Of course if it's just drizzling you probably don't need the extra gear.

Rain-jacket and just clothes and shoes you don't mind getting wet or that are water repellent. I am bringing an umbrella and hope that there is not much wind. Also, am bringing some dry clothes to change into for the after hike.

I am new to this place .. so when you mean rain gear a weather proof jacket should do good right

Seems we will be all going from Cupertino/SC area. Can we carpool? A meeting spot I use is the Homstead Shopping parking lot. It is right off 280 and Homestead.
