  • Go to Chisos Basin Group campsite Q
  • THE RSVP LIST IS NOW CLOSED.  I WILL NOW ONLY LET IN PEOPLE IF OUR YES RSVP IN THE TX GROUP FALLS BELOW 12 AND THAT I THINK IS UNLIKELY.  SORRY BUT THE CAMPSITE SPACE FOR TENTS IS VERY LIMITED.

TEXAS HAS ONLY TWO NATIONAL PARKS AND IT'S THE HOUSTON HIKING GROUP'S TRADITION TO DO ONE OF THEM PER YEAR.  BART & MORE HIKERS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN IN IF INTERESTED

HIKES WILL HAVE SEPARATE POSTINGS (SEE THE LIST BELOW). YOU DON'T HAVE TO CAMP WITH US TO DO THE HIKES AND SO YOU CAN TRY TO FIND YOUR OWN ACCOMMODATION IF POSSIBLE AND THEN DRIVE OVER TO JOIN US ON THE HIKES.

This is being co-posted with the TX group: CLICK HERE. If flying in (probably Midland-3hrs or El Paso-5hrs) then check with them also for car-rental pooling possibilities if some of them happen to be flying also.  Just post you interest in the comments box for each post.  As for me, I'll  be driving from Houston on Friday afternoon at 4PM, March 14, and staying one night in San Antonio before taking off the next morning ~5AM.  Let me know if you want to caravan with me.

PLEASE BRING ONLY SMALL TENTS. MEDIUM SIZE ONES ARE OK IF SHARING WITH MULTIPLE PEOPLE. INDICATE IN THE RSVP OR COMMENTS LINES IF SHARING A TENT, OTHERWISE I WILL ASSUME YOU'RE IN AN INDIVIDUAL SMALL TENT.

For questions send me an email but if you have more urgent inquiries call me at my cell # at[masked]-1976.

The CAMPSITE: I reserved Chisos Basin group campsite Q.  The limit is for 20 people but I may end up admitting less if people do not share tents. No showers near our campsite but there is one at the Rio Grande site.  We can do a shower trip at least on one of the days.

CAMPSITE COSTS: It's $108 fro the site total.  So if 10 people show up it will be 11$/person for the trip plus your park entrance fee per car and your personal food and transportation costs.

FOOD: I am planning to eat at the local lodge restaurant for all meals.  I suggest that carpools organize their own meal plans.

CAMPING LIST FOR BEGINNERSCLICK HERE.  You don't need to follow everything on this list. Adjust according to your needs or plans.

    Hiking Plans:

    1.  A River Hike - Saturday, March 15,  CLICK HERE for hike details & RSVP.

    2.  A couple of Desert Hikes - Sunday, March 16, CLICK HERE & HERE

    for hike details & RSVP.

    3. A mountain and the main hike of the trip, Monday, March 17, CLICK HERE

    for hike details & RSVP.

Been to Big Ben years back and loved it! Would really love to explore more... Love desert hiking. If I ever manage to leave the waiting list, I would be very interested to caravan with you from Houston if you still have space.

Not completely comfortable with shower availability. So decided to give the space to others on the waiting list.

Little concerned on the no shower part. 3 days of hiking, and only shower once? Will feel too stinky. :P
Hugo, is there any paid shower facility near camp site?

Closest is at Rio Grande Village that I know of and its ~ 1hr away and so its a lot of driving to be doing every day. Only other chance is if you know someone staying in the lodge?

Actually Midland, TX is a closer airport to Big Bend, ~3hrs, but they may not have as many flights to CA?

What airport should I fly into from CA? Is car rental a must? Thx!

El Paso. The park is ~ 2hrs from there. I don't think there is public transport from there and so you'll need to rent a car from there.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
