Pinnacles National Park - Day Hike

  • May 31, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

For those  without plans this weekend, your are invited to visit/hike the newly established Pinnacles National Park.  This will be a day hike.  We have a cool day (compared to average) on Saturday coming - low to mid 70s...good hiking weather.

Bring your camera - beautiful terrain and hill lands.  We may see condors, snakes, bats, etc.

Come prepared (plenty of water, lunch, clothing layers, good hiking footwear, etc.)

See link below for park information:

Call me at[masked] if you get lost.  I would recommend carpooling to this remote area.  The site is approximately 1 hour south from Gilroy.

For those wanting to carpool from Gilroy, I will be at 7900 Arroyo Cir, Gilroy, CA, US, 95020 (near the Gilroy Outlets, close to a McDonalds Restaurant).  I will be here from 7:30am and leave at 8:00am.

Directions -

From the San Francisco Bay Area to the East Entrance:

Take Hwy 101 south through the city of Gilroy to Hwy 25 south. On Hwy 25, go through the town of Hollister and continue about 30 miles to Hwy 146. Turn right on Hwy 146, then turn left into the Pinnacles Campground to check in at Pinnacles Visitor Center.  From the campground, the Bear Gulch Area is 3.5 miles further into the park along Hwy 146.

Arrival Process -

Upon arrival at the park, please check in at an entrance station, visitor center, or ranger station to get a receipt for your vehicle.

If you are a passholder, please check in or place your pass on your dashboard signature side up.

Would have been nice to meet this group, but just did Pinnacles 1 week and 7 weeks ago, both times full long loop! Caves are very very short and u only need headlamps/flashlight for about 5 seconds flat. Have fun!

Tom, in the description, you list the hike as 9:00 - noon. But elsewhere it is listed as a dayhike. When do you think the hike will finish?

    May 29, 2014

    • Nancy

Good question! Bottom of description says 10-12 miles/2000, 2,500 ft. with dinner afterwards. Noon is aggressive.

Starting at 9:00 AM and 2 hrs on the road! I love you Tom, really do, but I will have to get up at 5:30 AM! Which means I won't sleep all night knowing I have to get up that early. You see...

I have to get up earlier. I'll pick you up and you can sleep in my car until we get to Gilroy.
