Petaluma - Helen Putnam Regional Park

Distance: 9 mi

Elevation Gain: 500 ft

Duration: 5 to 6 hrs

BART Coverage: 6 mii

Difficulty: Easy

Meeting Point

IMPORTANT: Hike starts at 11am. On Highway 101, take the Lakeview exit going west.  Turn left on E Washington, left onto Petaluma Blvd N, right on Western Ave and left on Chileno Valley Rd.  It will be 0.8 mi on your left.  There is a parking fee of $7, so carpooling is a good idea.

Map below shows A as where we park and B as where we will shuttle to.

This is mostly an urban hike with 2 mi in the Helen Putnam Regional Park.  We will park and meet at the Helen Putnam Regional Park and shuttle to the Petaluma Adobe Historical State Park.  There, we will spend some time visiting the Petaluma Adobe before walking back through downtown Petaluma and then heading back to where we parked.  We will spend about an hour and a half in downtown Petaluma.

There are two activities to choose from.  The first is the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum.  They are having an exhibit on the Korean War.  The admission is $3.  Here's a link to the museum webpage.  The alternative is to visit the Sonoma Valley Portworks where you can learn the history of port and how it is made.  There is a tasting room.  Please indicate in your RSVP if you are interested and I'll try to make reservations.  Here's a link to the Portworks webpage.

Petaluma is a beautiful town! It was a little stressfull hiking and carpooling with Heidi & Karen...and the Giants playing on the same day! But the port tasting and the stout at Dempsey's certainly helped. All together, a great day of course. :-)
    Thanks again Edmond.

Two of us live in San Francisco. It would be great if anyone is interested in carpooling, we will contribute to the petrol cost.
    Look forward to the hike!
