Hike # 13_2009 - Bolinas Ridge ~ 10 Miles

I'm trying a Sunday hike this time and also a one-way car shuttle back type of hike. The Hike: This is an intermediate hike mainly because of climb #2 that is 1000ft in 1.5 miles. We'll be taking the Olema Valley trail till we climb on the Randall trail up to the BART on the Bolinas Ridge Trail. We'll end at the the Bolinas-Fairfax Rd intersection from which drivers or perhaps all of us will shuttle back to the Five Brooks start point. http://files.meetup.c...

Parking: Everyone, please drive and park at the Fairfax-Bolinas Rd and Ridge Crest Blvd intersection. It's all curbside or side of road parking and so just drive around till you find a spot. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE BOLINAS FAIRFAX RD IS CLOSED EAST OF HERE but it is open down to HWY1. The directions from google map may not be that good. I suggest to take HWY1 from 101 and then take the Panaromic HWY to the right (look for sign towrds Muir Woods), stay on the Panaromic past Muir Wood and eventually turn right on Pan Toll Rd and then shortly up on top turn left unto the Ridge Crest Rd. The drive will be windy but very pretty.

We'll efficiently carpool from here to the the start of the hike at Five Brooks. ideally we would need ~1car per 2.5 people and so far we have 8 cars and so we are fine for the shuttling.

Meeting point: I'll be visible in the intersection area with my usual tan baseball cap and my dark blue honda crv. Call if you are running late or get lost at [masked].

Optional After hike event: How about the Farm House in Olema?

Finally getting around to uploading my GPS routes unto my Topo and getting some better statistics than the original estimate: For this hike the final distance was ~9.8mi and the gain ~2085ft.

Somehow we completed this hike before the downpour. Being serenaded by the Bolinas Swamp Frog Choir was a highlight!

From the YES RVSP I discern 10 cars right now: Hugo, Su, Marcel, Jo, Seena, Shelli, Alma, Dave, Dan, and Paul. Conservativley speaking that means 20 people can be shuttled and probablly up to 25 if all cars have 4 passenger capacities. So since we have 17 yes's we are fine.

We now have 8 cars and so we are fine with the shuttling plan. I will be there rain or shine and do have an alternate plan if our numbers dwindle and our shuttle plan falls apart. It should be beautifully green up there and hopefully not too wet.

OK. As of 8:30PM Thursday we have 6 cars and 15 people and so things should work out for shuttling. More cars will be better but only if they''re single or dual carpoolers in 1+4passengers type of cars. Will update car and people situation every evening from now till Saturday.

Oh i think I understand what you mean. We should all meet at spot #2 and then maximally carpool to the start? I like that idea. I'll update the posting with that info. Thanks.

Hugo: Last weekend on a different hike we had a similar kind of shuttle situation. We all parked at the ending point and then shuttled in a few cars to the starting point. It seemed to go well. There was also a cap on the number of hikers, which probably helped the shuttling.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
