Welcome & Hike Info

With the hiking group now getting bigger, its probably now a good time to officially welcome you all to this hiking group. So welcome and hope you enjoy it.

Hope you all had a happy holiday and will have a happy new year in 2009. In on the topic of the New Year, a lot of you will probably start doing the hikes as a New Year?s resolution? To encourage this and to assist you all in gauging your hiking fitness level, I have planned the next three hikes as typical examples of what I define as easy, intermediate, and advanced hikes:

Hike # 9, Muir Beach, January 3rd is an easy hike with a taste of difficulty. It is short (less than 9miles) and the one and only climb is steep but for a very short distance.

Hike #10, Joseph D. Grant Park, January 10th is an intermediate hike in that it is ~9-12 miles and has few up and and down climbs but none severe (greater than ~1200ft in one mile or less)

Hike #11, Stinson Beach & Tamalpais Cataracts, January 17th is an advanced hike in that it is greater than 12 miles and has two major climbs (1200ft or greater in less than ~ 1 mile)

I have also started a file of all the hikes done to date categorized by difficulty . This way if you have done any of them or plan to do one you can gauge your hiking fitness and see what may be a challenging or easy to do for yourselves in the future . This file is located here:

Hope this info helps and hope to start seeing more of you hiking in 2009.

Happy New Year!
