Ridge Trail Council needs volunteers this Saturday at Tour de Fat

Hello Ridge Trail Meetup group!

Please forgive me if this is an abuse of the Meetup mailing list, as it is
not specifically about a Meetup or a hike. The Bay Area Ridge Trail
Council--the nonprofit that plans, acquires, builds, maintains, and promotes
the Ridge Trail you are all hiking, is hosting our largest annual fundraiser
this weekend and we still need volunteers to make it happen. The event is
Tour de Fat and this is Saturday September 26, in Golden Gate Park in San

I know there is a hike scheduled Saturday but if you are not planning on
hiking, and have a few spare hours, it'd be *great* if you could help us
out. Tour de Fat is a bike festival, but you don't have to be a cyclist to
enjoy the beautiful location, the live music & other great entertainment,
and some fine brews from event sponsor, New Belgium Brewing Company.

We have volunteer shifts all day, from setup starting at 9:00am, to teardown
at 4:30p.m. Volunteer positions include selling merchandise, signing people
into the Bike Parade, riding as Bike Parade Marshals, checking IDs*, selling
beer tokens*, pouring/serving beer*. and simply making sure there is enough
water for everyone. If you want to help with the alcohol, marked *, you
need to be TIPS certified (Tips for Intervention ProcedureS), and there is a
free TIPS class this Wed night in SF, from 7-9pm, with food, soft drinks and
beer provided. All volunteers get a Tour de Fat T-shirt, a beer token and
our sincere thanks (did I mention the Tour is the Council's biggest annual
fundraiser? 8-))

I know this is last minute and I apologize, but two groups we expected to
help fell through. If you, or anyone you know, are interested in helping,
please contact me, and I will get you the details asap. Thank you for
considering, and again my apologies if I am mis-using the list.

(And the hike this weekend is right close to home too... I just joined your
group a few weeks ago, and haven't had a chance to come hike yet, basically
because the Council has had events 4 out of the last 6 Saturdays... with 6
more in the next 7 weekends..)
