Eastern Lake Trail and Eden Gardens State Park

Join us for a hike on the lovely Eastern Lake Trail in Point Washington State Forest, followed by a picnic lunch at nearby Eden Gardens State Park!

We will meet at K-Mart near the Hathaway Bridge at 8:00 AM for carpooling, and will arrive at the Eastern Lake Trail at about 8:45 AM. The trailhead parking area is located on CR 395 about 1 ½ miles south of US 98, about 30 miles west of the Hathaway Bridge.

After completing the 6-mile Eastern Lake Trail loop, we will drive a few miles north on CR 395 to Eden Gardens State Park for lunch, where some may also wish to take a short walk on the pretty Nature Trail and tour the Wesley Mansion (see below for fees).

For those who might prefer a LONG hike, you may hike the 11-mile loop of the Eastern Lake Trail instead of the 6-mile loop, and have lunch on the trail instead of at the State Park with the rest of the group.  The two groups will separate about 2 miles into the hike.

Fees: $2 per person for the Eastern Lake Trail, $4 per carload to enter Eden Gardens State Park, and $4 per person for the Wesley Mansion tour (optional).  Carpoolers are also reminded to "tip" their drivers to help with the cost of gas.  Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome at both locations.

Bring water, lunch, bug spray, a hat, comfortable walking shoes, and small bills for fees.  Contact Activity Leader Ron Peterson or Co-Activity Leader Andi Beauchamp for more information.  Mary Thurman, another Co-activity Leader, will lead the "11-mile" group. The 6-mile hike is considered "moderate" while the 11-mile hike is considered "strenuous".  Hikers are strongly encouraged to consider their physical ability before committing to the 11-mile loop.  A map of the Eastern Lake Trail has been posted on this site, under "More" and "Files".

Here's a link to the full movie "The Frogs"! Maybe check out the first 10 min or so to see how it starts and see the Eden grounds and house. It goes downhill fast from there.

Although it seemed like a good idea at the time, I don't know if I am prepared to take even a five mile hike. Maybe next year. Thank you very much for the invite! Sincerely Don Amenson

  • Deyaa

This will be my first hiking activity ever, any advice?

    February 4, 2013

    • Ron P.

Hi Deyaa, if you've walked 5 or 6 miles around the neighborhood or elsewhere then you'll probably be fine. The terrain is flat and the weather should be cool. Tell one of the activity leaders about any medical issues such as bee allergies and diabetes before starting (me or Charissa Thacker). Try the 6-mile loop, not the 11 mile loop for this first hike. Wear comfortable, "broken-in" shoes, bring water, hat, and bug spray, stay hydrated, and stay close to one of the activity leaders and tell them of any problems along the way. Look forward to seeing you!

    February 3, 2013

    • Mary E T.

Thanks for offering to help :) Are you wanting to help with the 5 mile group or the 10 mile group? I believe I have Bryan and Melissa with me with the 10 mile group.
