A trip to my favorite place following some stunning northern coast line taking in up to 12 bays if time allows. The plan is to end up at Oneroa for dinner (fish and chips, wine, beer etc) on the beach under the pohutukawas....maybe a swim for those that are keen.
Start time: Ferry leaves at 9 a.m. suggest you are there 8.30 a.m.
Parking: Have always found Downtown carpark pretty safe and approx. $8.00 for the day.
Cost: Return ferry tickets $35.50 (No gold coin donation for this one).
Grade: Medium - This is a hike not a wine tour. It will be hilly, a reasonable distance and we hope warm so you need to be reasonably fit.
Time: Unknown...as long as you want to socialise on the beach eating and drinking...
Bring: Usual stuff, plenty of water, sun screen, sun hat, lunch. Plan is to have lunch at Little Oneroa. There is a dairy there and sometimes a mobile pizza caravan but I would'nt rely on them. We are NOT going up to the Oneroa shops on the way.
Toilets: Matiatia, Little Oneroa, Sandy Bay, Surfdale (If we get that far) and our final detination Oneroa.
IMPORTANT: THIS IS LIMITED TO 25 MEMBERS (NO GUESTS). AS THIS LIKELY TO BE A POPULAR EVENT ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY HIKED WITH US MAY COME ALONG. THIS GIVES OUR REGULAR MEMBERS A CHANCE OF COMING.
Route: Our walk starts to the left of the end of Matiatia wharf where we will have introductions. We then follow a route round Matiatia Bay past Cable Bay to Owhanake Bay. From there we go past Island Bay, Fossil Bay through a vineyard and follow a country road down onto Oneroa Beach. We continue along the beach over to Little Oneroa for lunch. After lunch we walk over to Sandy Bay then Enclosure Bay. Depending on time etc we can go over to Surfdale round to Blackpool then over a short distance to Oneroa for a well earned drink and something to eat.
RSVP's open Sunday night.
