Happiness Cuisine inside the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. Address below.
We will start at 1pm and expect to be done around 3:30.
Binna and Seth will coordinate the meetup. We hope to get plenty of input and suggestions from everyone else as well.
The meetup will be divided into two segments: Yumcha lunch first, amphitheater meeting second. The lunch is casual. The amphitheater meeting will be divided into two segments: 1) "speed dating" 5 minute exercises; and 2) arrangements for future smaller language meetups with the newly formed groups.
We will meet at Happiness Cuisine, eat, then walk to the amphitheater which is outside facing the ocean. It is a large open area so we will have plenty of room to move around and talk without being interrupted.
This isn't romantic dating, just to be sure. The goal of the speed dating exercise is to identify two very important things:
1) What you can provide.
2) What you need.
We will conduct the exercise about 2 or 3 times, each round taking 5 minutes. We will split up into groups of 5 people (we need to make sure the groups are evenly split with Korean/Chinese/Western people), each person will have 30 seconds to state what they can provide and what they need (example: I can provide English lessons and I need Korean lessons). After that the group can start to identify people whose skills/needs align (considering people's locations, schedule, etc.).
Future Meetup Arrangements
The second half of our amphitheater meeting will focus on organizing the newly formed groups and scheduling regularly occurring language study meetups. How this is arranged is up to the people in the groups. It is my hope that we can form interconnected groups and request meetups on this forum so that people can regularly meet with others and study/practice together.
Once we are in groups, we can create "suggested meetups" with a maximum headcount (probably around 3 people), then people can sign up and edit the time and location. It would be nice if there were two or three meetups a week to chose from. Or maybe a regularly schedule meeting or two per week.
Address to Happiness Cuisines:
Shop S[masked], 1/F,
Core Building 2, Hong Kong Science Park, Shatin
People may be interested in creating small groups (2 or more people) to study Korean/Mandarin/English in various formats such as language exchange, paid tutoring, etc. (as arranged by people in the group) in regular, reoccurring meetings.
Lets create a meetup with a structured "speed dating" type format to identify what each person 1) wants; 2) can provide, then suggest and create groups who will take it from there.
