Hey David, the date for the NAUI OW was inconclusive. But i got your number, there's a whatsapp group opened, I'll have Simon added you in :)
To drink, if you wanna try something different and very typical. You can order a bottle of "txacoli" wine. It is very soft flavour wine (as strong as sparkling wine) and not easy to find. Otherwise, beer, soft drinks all available. So get to the place, take a look at menu, order some "pintxos" (best spanish tapas) from different flavours, get some alcohol and let yourselves go in the bar atmosphere.I am sure if you go 1st or 2nd day, you will come back again before leaving. Good luck. Greetings.
You can walk there directly and try your luck (busiest time is spanish dinner time 9-11pm). It is better to go for dinner here. Also you can ask your hotel to help you to book (phone number below) to make sure you get a place. Let me explain you how this restaurant works.
They have "pintxos" (tapas with a toothpick on top), you order them by number (english menu available), eat your food and keep the toothpick. You pay per toothpick (different types and prices for toothpicks from 1 to 2 euros)
Yeah, unfortunately to get a table is difficult in the "Tickets" restaurant. Some people cancel their bookings so you can try your luck on internet. For the "41 grados" cocktail-bar should be easier, and still you can try some great food and drinks.
Regarding the 3rd restaurant, this is the contact information. It is called "Txapela" or "Txapela taberna" (both names) and it is located in "Passeig de Gràcia, 8" only 200 metres walking distance from "Plaza Catalunya".Phone:934120289
I will send you the following days more information about a 3rd place, different one, where you do not need to book. Cheaper and also great, although not run by the best cook of the world :P If you have any doubt about Barcelona, do not hesitate to drop me a line. I hope you and your wife enjoy your stay in my country. Regards, David.
this one is easier to book. They offer great range of cocktails, a more relaxed atmosphere and this small but great tapasto go with it.
If you're thinking about visiting them, check out these links using google translator. Descriptions and pictures are great.

The cook is called Ferran Adria, cheers.
This is the official website of the 2 restaurants I mentioned to you in Barcelona (http://ticketsbar.es/)
The second one (tickets) is the most complete restaurant, but difficult to book. You must book 2 or 3 months in advance through the website. I dunno exactly when you're going to Barcelona but you can try your luck.
The first one (41 grados) belongs to the same owner, it is the place next door. They are focused on small tapas, same quality of food but not main dishes...
