I've been improvsing for about 10 years but have not found groups who want to do quite what I want to do, so the time has come to try and start my own. My vision of impro is holistic. This is impro as if it was about having fun rather than being good at it. It's about playing a game in unexpected ways being more fun than winning the game. This is impro as something that you could apply to your whole life instead of just for performing. Impro as therapy- realising you don't need a script to live by. This is impro that isn't just about acting. It can be about any form of expression and creativity. This is the slow impro movement. Like the slow food movement but for impro. Growing the food slowly is analogous to encouraging activity from the improvisers who are appropiately emotionally prepared to benefit from spontaneity (ie/ not to encourage people on the grounds of their egos and desire to be seen on stage). Transporting the food slowly is analogous to selecting styles/sources that reflect the underlying emotional attitudes of the improvisers worked with. Eating the food slowly is analogous to being spontaneous during the performance. Anyone at all is welcome in this adventure. Having no experience is just as good as having loads of experience. All that really matters is that you want to be yourself with other people being themselves. The intention would be to perform shows to audiences eventually, just because that's more fun.
