We've fallen behind on our class so we're getting together to make them all up in a giant Cobb Extravaganza! We're going to be building our wall, our counter and our oven all in one day! So come when you can, leave when you want, bring something to eat or to share and join in the cobb-follery!
Cobb is a building material consisting of clay, sand, straw, water, and earth. It is very similar to adobe. Since is it made from such readily available materials (self-renewing and sustainable too), Cobb is a very inexpensive building material. It is even fireproof and resistant to seismic activity. Its origins are set in the Afghanistan deserts and it is used today as mostly on a sculptural level. In this class you’ll learn the basics of making cob, its strengths and weaknesses as compared to standard concrete building. You will also be able to assist in the construction of a Cobb oven, counter, and receive the plans in order to build your own!
This class is being held inside the Del Mar Fairgrounds, if you made it to one of our prior class, it's the same location! If you didn't, we'll meet on Via De La Valle, West of Jimmy Durante Between the Fish Market Restaurant and Pamplemousse by 9:45. WE WILL CARAVAN TO THE LOCATION FROM THERE. IF YOU ARE LATE, CALL US AT[masked] TO ARRANGE ESCORT TO THE SITE.
Wear comfortable clothing which are OK to get dirty. Bring gloves, wear sturdy shoes, and bring plenty of water.
We will also invite you back to see the finished education exhibit, and share your experience with others.
