The Keyhole Garden is an essential element in the Permaculture garden. It allows the gardener to harvest their bounty without ever stepping foot off their path. This helps eliminate compaction and eases the stress of harvesting. A hugelkultur bed is made from a mound of wood buried underneath the soil. As the wood rots, it releases precious nutrients and helps with the absorption and retention of water. This allows a garden to grow without the use of supplemented water or fertilizer, a gardeners dream come true. In this class you’ll learn the history and key concepts of these elements as well as how to apply them to your own yard. You will also be invited to help in the construction of a Hugelkultur/ Keyhole Garden.
Wear comfortable clothing which are OK to get dirty. Bring gloves, wear sturdy shoes, and bring plenty of water.
We will also invite you back to see the finished garden, and share your experience with others.
