We work, eat, consume without ever really knowing where our food and goods come from. I want to change that for myself, to better maintain access to the supplies I need, and to be able to appreciate the energy that goes into every morsel of my food.
I take too much for granted in our present consumer culture. Our access to resources makes us dependent on an unsustainable system of transportation and communication. I would like to become more self-reliant, and know how to access or make the items that I need most. I also want to develop a more informed appreciation of where my food comes from, and what it really takes to produce it.
I am a proficient vegetable gardener, though not at my current residence. I grew up in pennsylvania out in the country, so I have a pretty decent handle on basic animal husbandry, plant cultivation, and back-country ingenuity. But if I had to do it tomorrow to survive, I might be lost...
Hi Dan, welcome to the group! Hope to see you at a BBB+B Happy Hour sometime soon. I saw you signed up for some hikes, I think you'll enjoy them.
