Excellent first step to getting us off are behinds and doing something...which is the whole point of the group, right?
Here are some things I want to learn - anyone with any know-how could share it in a meetup:
How to make a solar oven
How to collect water
How to filter water
How to grow/can ideal survival foods
Basic first aid
Hunting/fishing/skinning/curing/smoking, etc. of meats
Construction of basic shelters
Outdoor survival skills
The best equipment/emergency supplies to have on hand
How to make an emergency plan
Basic hand to hand
Yes, these are all available on the net, but I am hoping to be able to learn and talk to others. If anyone has anything to share or teach on these subjects (or any others!) please schedule a meetup. Even if you aren't an expert, some knowledge shared is better than none.

Thank you for saving our group. I am here to learn, so I did not feel I could lead. What I can offer is to gather info about books, web pages that are out there in the topic of homesteading, survival, living off the land etc. whatever topic the group decide to concentrate on. And I am curious what else we can do together.
Good ideas are the flower of the mind, waiting to bloom for the benefit of the thinker.
ok, so I was afraid this group would end, but it has so much potential! Homesteading is the most important basic knowledge we should have under our belt for the just in case, to the healthier lifestyle! Let's join together so we can make this group productive and active. Although, I didnt want the resposability because I travel a lot I am expecting others to contact me if they want to sponsor a meetup. Everyone pitch in and share your personal knowledge and experiences. So that we can say every month we leave here better people.
Have an idea? Know of an educational event? Share it with the rest of us! Please contact a Team Leader to organize an event.
There are a lot of recent concerns with the economy and world affairs in general. Growing and producing your own food and household products makes good sense for your budget, health, and the environment. Interest in becoming self sustaining has grown fast.
The intent of this group is toteach/sharetopics related to homesteading that combine the best of the old ways and the advancement of modern methods.
Along the way we may throw in some survivalist classes. We live in earthquake country, with wildfires an obvious threat also. Imagine the power going out for whatever reason. Any one of us well prepared homesteaders would be comfortably enjoying a hot meal cooked in our solar ovens from home canned produce and backyard chickens while the local grocery stores are under mob attack. In another practical scenario, most households now have less income that it needs to cover groceries that cost more than they used to. Some solutions are to starve or eat substandard foods with poor nutrition. A much better solution is to grow your own food to save money and improve the health of your loved ones.
If you have an idea or a skill you want to share, please jump in and let us know. If you wish to create an event for the first time, you must contact the main organizer to arrange an interview with our education and outreach staff. During this interview, we can learn more about your planned events, skill levels, and how they will benefit our members. Once you become a "Core Education Partner", you will have direct posting access. We retain the right to edit, or delete posts without notice.
Members with a bad attitude or who try to exploit us financially, or other unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated here.
