Watercolour Painting Demo and Opening of Show- Superheroes and Other Imaginings

The opening of Hong Kong based Artist Rachel Smith's latest show 'Superheros and Other Imaginings' will be held from 4 - 8 pm on Saturday 17th August at BOOM Cafe and Gallery, 48 Sai Street, Sheung Wan. Rachel will also be holding a watercolour portrait painting demonstration from 4 - 6 pm. Come join her!

Rachel Smith is a Canadian born artist who met and fell in love with the city of Hong Kong 14 years ago. Her work is usually figure based and often combines her family background in sewing and quilting with painting and traditional paper based works.

Her current series Superheroes and Other Imaginings works with the minds of children as they become aware of the world around them. They unselfconsciously act out their fantasies and take on the expanded personalities of their heroes. For the adults watching, they show a forgotten stage when we believed in ‘good’ and ‘right’, when all you needed to make the darkness fade was to turn on the light.

The show will continue from 13 August to 7 September.

BOOM Cafe is a lovely little spot on a quiet street in SOHO. The owners support local artist and love wine, art and music too! They have regular showings of local artists work and are available for private hangings and parties.
