This meeting is only for members of the Innovation Coaching Master Mind Group who has gone through the application and self-reflection steps in Jun and Jul 2012.
This group will run for 6 months and then we will evaluate the format and may go for the second round.
About the Group and the Background of the activity:
We believe Coaching is an advanced methodology to help individuals and organizations to grow with sustainability. Coaching is also compelling a message for individuals to take self-responsibility for life-long learning than living in a hierarchy nutshell.
Coach Bonnie created a posting on HKCO in June 2012 namely “Calling for Committed Members for a Coaching in Action Champagne” informing members about her wish to create a core group within the HKCO who are passionate and committed to involve in (1) learning coaching in action for personal growth and (2) contribute to the HKCO and be involved in social responsibility with coaching. She has written in the introduction that Coaching is a life style and communication skill that helps people to become a better person through engaged listening; being non-judgmental and empowers people to see their potential for their success in life and work for contributing to the community and more.
There were a total of 12 members signed up. In order to help participants to understand what the core group will be and ensure their commitment, below email was sent on 1 July. As a result, there are 5 members committed to move on.
Coaching In Action Campaign[masked] – Innovation Coaching (IC)
This is Not Another Meet up Event!
This is a small group of committed members in the HKCO to create a legend about Innovation Coaching in Hong Kong.
- We are a small group with limited number of participants, a group of 4-7 is best.
- We commit a long-term commitment to the group for 12 months with consistent meetings and exchanges.
- We create our individual Innovation Coaching project as experimental learning for a personal innovative development.
- We share committed bonding for building and supporting each others’ learning in Innovation Coaching.
You are not necessary be a professional coach to join the group. What you are required is an authentic interest in Coaching and a commitment to contribute to the group for the Innovation Coaching creating process. Innovation Coaching to me probably means to motivate an individual to challenge old mindsets, and to bring renewed or refreshed perspectives/contributions to a situation?
Innovative coaching culture - it seems that we are building a culture that will benefit a lot of people who are facing some difficulties in life, work, and love. We are trying to make people's lives more meaningful & constructive helping people to turn dreams into concrete plans innovatively I guess I will understand more after the virtual meeting.
1. Why innovation?
Innovation keeps the world moving with continuous improvement. With innovation, people in the planet can have a better living standard. It does not only refer to the enhancement of "normal to good", which improve the convenience and efficiency of daily life. Typical example on such kind of improvement is the launch of iPhone. However, the most valuable innovation is the way to help people suffering from a relatively weak situation to "live" better. It is about fulfilling the basic need. For example, I read a case in Africa that a small innovation which makes use of children's playground to greatly solve the water shortage problem in that place.
2. What is innovation?
Innovation is anything about applying new ideas or thinking perspectives in existing situation. The objective of innovation is to solve problem or improve the live. It can mean the plus, minus, rearrange or mix & match for the current situation. Therefore, innovation is not exactly equal to creation. In my view, creation means creating something from nothing. Innovation can be acquired through learning and benchmarking. We can learn from the experiences of others and then modify it to fix our own problems or achieve our own goal. Therefore, innovation is definitely not a rocket science.
3. Why Coaching?
Every one has its blind point, no matter how strong or smart he/she is. Blind point does not mean that he/she is lack of capability or weak. Instead, he/she is unable to move forward or even step back because it only zooms in the problem or obstacle. It is hardly solved by the person individually. Actually the person has solution and path in mind but covered by some messy thoughts. Per my experience as a coachee, coaching can help a person to think about the situation and problem in a different angle of view, waken up the confidence hidden in mind and put the focus on the target. The objective of coaching is to help organize and work out the solution to resolve the situation by the coachee itself. A human's mind is really powerful to make things possible, coaching is the key to unlock the potential.
4. What to coach?
Coach can be applied in any area for a person, career, marriage, study, relationship and so on, as long as he/she has an intention to tackle the problem or grow. I think the most important coach area is to help to coachee to find out the purpose and the meaning of his/her life. Normally such kind of coaching will not only help the coachee individually but also benefit to the society.
5. What is Innovation Coaching for me?
For me, Innovation Coaching could be interpreted in two dimensions. One is about the coaching process. The other one is to enhance my innovation. For Innovation Coaching Process, I assume it will apply some coaching methods that is different from the traditional face to face or phone conference mode. Maybe it is more activity based with team involved. However, the spirit behind is to help me growth. For another view, Innovation Coaching is focusing on how to enhance my innovation in solving a problem. How to see the problem in different perspective and think out of the box. Ultimately, how to achieve the objective with different innovation paths.
6. Why Building an Innovation Coaching Culture?
As mentioned above, innovation can drive great improvement in human's living standard and saving people in weak side. Innovation Coaching is the key to unlock the potential to get rid of obstacles by some out of the box ideas. Culture is about the values of a group or people and it affects the behavior pattern. In other words, if we can build an innovation coaching culture and this culture is well spreading in the society, It can drive a positive circulation on continuous improvement. The Innovation Coaching Culture will be the DNA for such circulation.
7. Value of Experimentation
Hypothesis, idea or vision is always beautiful and perfect. However, plan is plan, it may have some issues when it is put on the ground for implementation. Experimentation means the real case testing. Experimentation should include an organized approach or step to test different scenarios of the idea. It can be arranged in a sample or small log scale so that it would not create uncontrollable impact. The value of experimentation is to find out some blind point in thinking and then adjust or modify the idea to a more sophisticated and workable product.
