Old HK Walk -Diamond Hill to Kowloon City

Itinerary for Sunday:

9am - Meet outside Exit A2

- as people arrive they will be checked in

9.15am - Outing starts

- if you are not here at 9.15am you will be marked as a no show

- this exit is about a 10-15min walk from the Nan Lian Nunnery in the opposite direction, it's your choice to visit it or not,

- from this exit it's 5min to San Po Kong, once again it's your choice. You could visit the nunnery and then skim through San Po Kong. Or you could skip the nuns and get lost in SPK,

- be sure to visit Nga Tsin Wai, Morse Park and the Kowloon walled city park,

- there is also a couple of temples in the area (look on google earth) and the Chinese Christian Cemetery (if dead is your thing),

- the route on the map is not prescribed but rather suggested.

- remember, this outing is for you to explore, make friends and take pics!

12.00pm - Outing ends in Kowloon City

Sean: I did not find you guys at all the exits down at the MTR station. Bumped into Dan and Kumiko and went with them for the shoot.

Bringing Canon weatherproof gear. But usually not an issue unless you stand out in the pouring rain. Umbrellas work, and city shots in the rain are great...

      January 26, 2013

    • Sean C.

Adeline, rain is not a problem! Like Steve said city + rain = great shots!

    Hi Sean,
Thank you for organizing such an exciting outing for us! Very much looking forward to it. BTW, what kind of lens/lenses would you recommend? I am wondering which one is best; 17-55mm,[masked]mm, or 50mm? My camera is Cannon 600D. It would be nice if you advise me. Thank you very much for your help in advance! All the best,
    Kumiko

    January 26, 2013

    • Sean C.

It's a pleasure Kumiko. The[masked]mm will cover just about everything you need.

Very excited to attend my first HKPC meetups, and even get many opinion before buying either 650D EOS or NIKON D3200

    January 26, 2013

    • Sean C.

While you are learning the[masked] will be perfect. Once you get used to the camera, identify your style and want more from your pics you will need to update your lenses.

Thanks Sean, so I get you suggest to buy cam with[masked] to learn much more and this one 50mm 1.8 to take night pictures without this tripood in cases of travel or hiking or whatever i don't have it.

With 80+ people, would it be a good idea to divide into 2 groups with start time 30 minutes apart so that we don't get into too much of each others' way?

All: For what it's worth, I have never been on one of our in-city walks where the entire mob didn't split up into groups of 1 to 4/5 within the first ten minutes. People move at different paces and have different visions. This is a short walk in an urban environment, and Sean has already provided a detailed map. Trying to move 40 shooters down the same path is like herding cats.... I'm just sayin'....

Agree with Steve. I'll try and get there early and check people in as they arrive. Once you are checked in and have a small group together you can start off with the walk. Just a friendly reminder, if you have not arrived at the meeting point by 09:15 you will be marked as a 'no show'.

What about a sudden fashion catwalk with invisable models and flashes popping :)

    1 · January 21, 2013

  • Sean C.

Seeing as there are quite a few people coming on Sunday, I thought it would be an interesting idea to do a flashmob somewhere. Any ideas? Seeing as we all have cameras, maybe it should be camera or photography related? Perhaps we could all gather in a very open area and freeze in our best camera pose for about 1-2min?
