Tamale Making Class!

Do you love Mexican Tamales?... Want to learn how to make those hot-little-numbers? Come and learn in a "hands-on" type demonstration with yours-truly, I've had several requests to do this event again from this group and my group "Cooking, Dining & Food Fans", this will be the 5th time and I have so much fun doing it - I am happy to offer it again!

In, Oklahoma, Mexico and Southern Cal, my Mexican friends taught me more about Mexican Cuisine & Culture than I ever learned in the restaurant biz. One of my favorite things to make is tamales. The Mexicans typically take an day where the whole family and friends get involved in the process, which is a lengthy one. Everyone helps in making the tamales, in "assembly-line" fashion, dozens at a time and freeze them for later use.  Click to show

The pork will be cooked - ready to pull, and the corn husks soaking when you arrive, ready for the next steps. Those steps include; blending the chilies to mix with the meat, making the masa dough, spreading the masa, filling, tying and then steaming the tamales. We will sample what we make and each will take a few of the tamales home. Yes, authentic tamales are supposed to be hot/spicy, that's why they dubbed those red candies "Hot Tamales"! - this is a Mexican food - but we can make a small batch of milder "Americanized" if requested, no worries ;-)

I will also demonstrate a delicious Salsa Verde for the cooked  tamales, and "Arroz con Leche", a delicous treat of Mexican dessert rice with milk and cinnamon!

Bring an apron and dress down for this fun and casual culinary experience!

FYI - This is not a dinner event, it is a "how to" class. Although we will be sampling the finished product later in the evening, you will want to make sure you eat something before you arrive!

Also, be aware that cats will be present, if you have allergies you will need to take your own precautions...

It is fun Laura, hope to see you this or the next time - I have a relatively small condo. Hence, the reason I have to limit attendees. It will be a bit crowded even with the 7 of us, but if anyone would like to volunteer their home to host this, we could add a couple more from the waitlist and have more room to work. I bring all the ingredients and pot for steaming, you just provide the space!
