Member Tips

Here are some tips on how to get the most out of your membership in The Houston Business Meetup Group.

1. Fill Out Your Profile

Did you know that some people look at the profiles of those who RSVP to decide whether or not they will attend the event? Use your profile to promote you and your business.

2. Add a Link to Your Website in Your Profile

This is actually part of the previous tip, but it is so important I felt it should be stated as a separate tip. When you edit your profile, be sure to add a link to your website. You may get some leads just from your profile.

3. Get your Company Name or Line of Work Added as Your Title

If you become a VIP Member or a Co-Sponsor of the Group, we will add your Company Name or Line of Work as your title in the Group. This means that when you RSVP, your company name or line of work will be visible next to your name. This makes you stand out, and also lets people know what you do.

4. Try to be Accurate in Your RSVP

As mentioned earlier, some people decide to come or not depending on who has already RSVPed. So if you say YES, there may be people who are coming just to meet you. They would be disappointed if your RSVPed YES, but did not attend. But RSVPing MAYBE and NO has its benefits. See the next tip to see why.

5. RSVPing is Free Promotion

Every time you RSVP, it gets your name out there in front of people and the more times people see your name, the more it feels familiar to them. Combine this with filling out your profile, getting your company name or line of work added next to your name, and attending events, and people will feel like they know you even though they never met you, because they have seen your name so much.

6. Attend Events

Every event we have new people come, perhaps even looking for you. Many times I hear someone say "I wish so-n-so would have come. I wanted to meet her/him." So be sure to come. People are looking for you. ;)

7. Sign the Attendance Sheet

Make sure the organizer knows that you attended. We keep track of attendance and reward those who frequently attend.

8. Become a VIP Member

We created the VIP Member program so that we can reward people who contribute to the group. We promote you and your business in a variety of ways, helping you get more customers and grow your business. Check out the VIP Membership Program for more details.

Becoming a Supporter or Co-Sponsor

The Supporter and Co-Sponsor titles are designed to recognize those who contribute to the growth of group. Co-Sponsors and Supporters contribute to the group by either frequently attending events, bringing guests, or making a monetary contribution.

It is possible to become a Co-Sponsor for free by meeting the requirements in the Current Promotion listed on the Co-Sponsorship Program page.

To be a Supporter, one option is to become a VIP Member of the Group, which helps pay for supplies and expenses associates with running the group. (The Organizer is currently paying most of the expenses out of his pocket.) You can pay Scott M. Stolz, the Organizer, in person or pay online using the PayPal button on the Group's Home Page.

As a Co-Sponsor or Supporter, you get special recognition on the site, and also get your company name or line of work as your title next to you name. It will appear on your profile and next to your name when you RSVP. It also sets you apart from from those who RSVP and never attend, which helps you get noticed.

Contact the Organizer about Co-Sponsoring or Supporting the Group. Thank you.
