Knockout.js and Client Side Roundtable

I will start off the night with an introduction to knockout.js. This will be code focused as we build out several client side scenarios. I tried out Ember.js for a particular project. I was very frustrated. Upon a suggestion from fellow houston.js member, Austin Fatheree, I decided to take another look at knockout. I swapped out my ember.js code and started using knockout.js that night, and haven't looked back. As I code, I will discuss where knockout fits in the broader scope of your application and compared to other frameworks I've used.

After the knockout talk, we will transition into a client side framework roundtable. People can talk about their favorite frameworks, the pluses and minuses. Also others can ask questions if they are about to start down a certain path and want advice.

PS... looking for someone wanting to give a Node.js talk in the coming months.

This might be too late, but it' be great if everyone can add in your RSVP comment which framework you're currently using. Easy way for us to know who's using what before tonight.

Maybe on the recording being online. I am pretty terrible at encoding and putting the video up. :)

Thursday has been recommended as the best day so far. Tuesday is a definite no go.

It seems like I won't be able to make it today. Is the presentation going to be available online?

Is the meetup going to be on Thursdays going forward? Wednesday generally works better for me.

Forgot to order food. Doh! There are a number of places to eat nearby. So everyone fend for yourself tonight. My bad.

There is parking nearby free and paid. Please be careful and watch signs for towing areas. The talk is code centric and when I run through it by myself it lasts 40 minutes. We will see how that goes when we code it live and field questions. Afterwards I will kick start the open discussion on client side frameworks. Discussing the pros and cons of each. Looking for audience participation at that point. Ask questions and speak up about your experiences.

I'm going to have to change the title on my card to knockout evangelist.

Thanks for the suggestion Amanda! I went by and talked to Matt at platform houston and they are happy to host us for this months meeting. Well.. this and last months meeting. :)

If you want to participate in the client side round table, you can either speak up at the meeting or contact me through meetup. Just mention what you would like to talk about or have experience with. Look forward to seeing you guys on Thursday!

platformHouston (http://www.platformhouston.com/#about) in Rice Village is a great new venue you could try.

Also, i wanted to bring this up at the next meetup hoping that it would be before November 3, but it seems like that might not happen--there is a hackathon coming up November 3rd to 4th at platformHouston.
