Rasmus Lerdorf in Houston! -- Houston PHP Users Group June Meetup

Alert Logic, Inc. (map)

Selected By:

Rasmus Lerdorf, creator of the PHP language, will be in Houston in June and graciously volunteered to do a presentation to our group! Sorry about the last minute modification, but we will need to move our meeting from our usual date/time to Wednesday June 10th at 6:00pm. The presentation details below from Rasmus himself:
------------

Architecture, Performance, Optimization and Security.

I take a look at the performance of some popular PHP applications and go
through and show the common mistakes people make and show how much of a
difference just a little bit of optimization makes.

Then, if there is still time and interest I'll explain the current state
of XSS on the Web with some live examples of XSS issues on some local
sites. I usually like to have 2-3 hours, but I can squeeze it into less.

-------------
I hope to see you all here for this great opportunity!

    Marc,

Yes we will put the video online, but it might take us a few days to do it. I'll send an email announcement when we have it ready for you all.

Try and top that. He covered several significant PHP related topics in depth within a single 4 hour session. Like an angry parent, he called out bad practices all of us are guilty of.

Watch the video if you didn't make it. Heck, watch the video again anyways.

A four-hour presentation from the creator of the PHP language? How cool was that?!?

Awesome! Rasmus covered quite a range of topics. I was really surprised at some of his views on frameworks and template engines but he did back them up with real statistics. Definitely will be at least reconsidering some of my practices. Thanks again to Rasmus & Joao!

A great meeting - Lerdorf was entertaining and opinionated. He covered an amazing amount of ground, discussing optimization, new features in 5.3, XSS and a variety of other security threats, and PHP techniques for guarding against them.

Rasmus was great! He is an excellent speaker and shared a ton of useful information. Rasmus also spend a great deal of time answering questions from the floor. I hope he can find time to visit Houston again and would share more information with this group.
