HOUKULELE WEST

Our first meetup was great fun! Hope to see everyone back & some new faces (and Ukes) for Round 2. Theme will be Hawaiian music, including Iz. But we will play & sing anything!

Had a great time with Haeaiian music and a couple of real Hawaiians to help play & sing it. Some other people having lunch nearby asked if we were a "band" and said they were really enjoying the music. We're just that good! :) :)

A change in the timeframe for a family event today has changed my plans- hope to make the next one!

If we're on the back patio again, there are picnic tables. Music stands helpful but not required.
We'll have both of the Daily Ukulele books with us as well. Yeah, there's a lot of too hard/too easy/don't like it in them, but for those of us without iPads it's a pretty handy way to carry a bunch of music.

I've been carrying around binders for years full fo music and handouts. Sometimes old tech is fine. And the Beloff book is comb binding, it easily could I've been considering thinning it out. Music stands are nice, but a few people just layed out thier music on the tables.

I got that version of the uke book a couple of weekends ago. I can bring it in and let you flip through it. I don't have any Hawaiian music, but will bring in a couple of my favorite oldies. By the way, how is the restaurant set up? Do we need music stands?

We meet outside under a covered patio, and yes music stands are appreciated if you have one. :)

Chord progression sounds good! I'm also bringing a page about how to do Hawaiian vamps which I learned from Aldrine Guerrero of ukuleleunderground.com which I now think is the best place on the Net to really learn how to play the Uke. :)

I just sold my copies of both Beloff's books on Amazon for half price. I cannot play 80% of his arrangements, either too simple, way too complicated, the wrong key, or just sounded bad. Since it is so easy to find songs for free online, I also see no point in lugging around large books. I really like Richard G.s site for songs and all are free. I know Beloff's books are very popular, but I bought both and only found about 20 songs I could actually play. ;)

I'm bringing a handout that I got years ago, I think from Gerald Readore. Its not music per se, but a chord progression practice. I have found it useful. I am also bringing a few of the songs from the meetup song books on line. On a completely different topic, has anyone seen the leap year uke book by Jumping Jim? Is it worth the money?

I'm bringing the ones I mentioned below. Please bring anything you want us to play!

Has anyone chosen any more music for Saturday? I notice that in the "more" tab - "files" there are several song books in PDF. The songbook 1 has My little Grass Shack (with both soprano and baritone chords) while songbook 2 file has Sophisticated Hulu (with both soprano and baritone chords), Wahine Ili Kea and White Sandy Beach (with both soprano and baritone chords). I don't know the tunes to most of these, but they do look both playable and Hawaiian.

Vicki can you change your RSVP to yes just so this meeting will be published as upcoming instead of suggested? Thanks ...

I will bring White Sandy Beach, Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World and Iz version of Country Road. Plus a sheet of Hawaiian style vamps and chords for Aloha 'Oe and Ka Uluwehi o Ke Kai and simple picking pattern/intro for White Sandy Beach.

Please note below what songs you will bring. We will choose 5 songs that we will definitely play so people can practice beforehand. Other songs will be selected from whatever shows up.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
