About The Houston Anime Meetup Group

This group is all about making friends.

We're a bunch of people who gather together because of our interest in anime, manga, and foreign live action shows/movies.

We talk about anything and everything. No subject is too sacred or taboo.

We are open-minded, raunchy, loud, offensive, and sometimes yes even rude. So if you don't think you'd be able to handle a group thats open about anything and everything and doesn't take itself seriously most of the time then this isn't for you and you should look elsewhere.

Otherwise come on over and laugh with us.

Types of Events

Currently we have two regular centralized Meetup Events held at Cafe Express or another venue within the 610 loop and within 10-20 minutes of downtown.

Every month, unless holidays are a factor, we have an event on one side of the Houston Area to give those who live far out on any side an oppurtunity to come and get to know our group.

I try to find venues as convenient as possible on all sides of the Houston area, and the locations are usually outside of Beltway 8 if not farther. This is to provide some form of convenience to everyone on the particular side we're visiting regardless of how far they live form central Houston.

Currently the only side we are not visiting is the Eastside, but if you live in that area and would like us to give you an oppurtunity to hang out with us just contact me and I'll be happy to try and schedule something.

We also like to go and generally hang out such as going to a movie, club, bar, video arcade, non-anime related festivals, and other such friendly get-togethers.

We are now having showings giving different venues a shot and seeing what our members are comfortable with. Once we've had a few and I've gotten some feedback we'll pick permanent locations to have our monthly showings.

Participation

I know its not possible to attend every event and it is not expected. It is possible, however, to keep informed of our group by visiting the site or contacting me periodically.

Any group strives and survives solely on participation by its members. As such, I periodically go through the Members section of the site looking for members that have been inactive for more than 2 months and have never made any attempt to attend an event or remain active on the boards and I remove them.

All you have to do is log into the site once every two months. That is not alot to ask of anyone given the online access people now have.

Those few members who have been inactive for over 2 months and are still members are those who were formerly active and made contributions to the group. Those contributions earned them the benefit of staying in this group and continuing to get notifications of events and information.

What we watch

We watch anything and everything.

Oldschool: Voltron, Ronin Warriors, Lupin, Speed Racer, Dragonball, Neon Genesis: Evangelion, Macross Plus, Patlabor.

Recent: Fullmetal Alchemist, Black Lagoon, Gunxsword, Blood+, Mai Hime, Read or Die, Desert Punk, Maburaho, tons of others.

Current: Deathnote, Black Blood Brothers, Ergo Proxy, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Eyeshield 21, Marchen Awakens Romance.

Live Action: Garo, Magi Ranger, Chinese Tall Story, Volcano High, Teach Me English, Hani Yori Dango, Initial D, Ichi The Killer, Suicide Club, Audition.

We also watch shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, yaoi, yuri, hentai, and on ocassion even straight up porn :)

Sharing

Many of us have lots and LOTS of different titles and we regularly share what we have. Chances are if you're looking for it, one of us has it.

It us entirely up to the individual whether or not they choose to lend out what they have. Our general policy unless otherwise stated is to watch and give back anything you borrow as soon as you can so others have the same oppurtunity to watch as many different titles as they like.

We do not rent, sell, or otherwise distribute for profit anything we have inside the group. If you wish to do so you can do it individually outside the group.

Message Boards

The boards are there for non-individual communication between members of the group. I believe in freedom of expression as such the boards are not monitored for language and content. You are free to talk about whatever you want there.

It is best used for questions and discussions about anime related information such as new titles and recommendations, or opinions.

It can also be used to organize a non-meetup related event if you so choose such as going to a festival or a movie.

How you use it is entirely up to you.

Profiles

The questions were made to give the rest of our group an idea of what to expect from new members. It tells us their interests, experiences, and other useful information that we use to get to know people before we meet them.

Meeting a complete stranger is generally not easy. These profiles help to ease that burden as you already know some information about who it is you're meeting.

Please take the time to answer the questions if for anything at least as a courtesy to the other members.

Polls

I use this feature to get an idea of what it is you, the members, want out of this group. It helps make decisions on the direction the group goes. It helped me decide to start doing official showings so please take the time to answer it

Files/Photos

Here you can find videos, sounds, and pictures usually related to a past event. if you take vidoes, photos, or any kind of record of an event we welcome you to post it and share it with the rest of the members.

This benefits everyone by showing what a great time we have at these events.
