The fall season of free online courses is now in full swing, and I just
noticed that Coursera has one focused around R and finance:
Introduction to Computational Finance and Financial Econometrics
Learn mathematical and statistical tools and techniques used in
quantitative and computational finance. Use the open source R
statistical programming language to analyze financial data, estimate
statistical models, and construct optimized portfolios. Analyze real
world data and solve real world problems.
Much of the course will mirror the on campus UW course described here:
This is not an easy course, from the syllabus, but it is free and based
on R. It officially started on Sept 4, but the first homework is not
due for a week so it is easy to join.
I signed up, but I'm not sure I'll be able to ride this horse for very
