We have a cosplay day (a day to dress up in your favorite HP costume & take pics & play around) scheduled for Saturday April 26th, in just two weeks. Right now we have 6 people committed to going. The cosplay day was going to be at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival.
However, because we have so few people wanting to go right now, and just to explore opportunities I wanted to suggest an alternative and see what you guys think. Jon & Luisa brought it to our attention that a new game has opened up very near us - MagiQuest. The Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine currently runs the only version of this game in Dallas. Players are armed with wands and get to complete quests, solve puzzles and accumulate powers, just like in a video game. Only now the game is real because these quests take place over the 8 stories of the hotel. Wave your wand and open a treasure chest or unlock a door, solve a riddle. It sounds like a lot of fun, go have a look:http://www.greatwolflodge.com/Locations/Grapevine/amenities/magiquest.aspx
The game costs $10 to play and the very first time you play it you'll need to buy a wand which is $15. The wands are special computer chip enhanced things that keep track of your game and how you're progressing so that you can play over time and continue to accumulate points and powers. For $10 you can play all day! Seems like a pretty good deal and I've heard it's a lot of fun.
I need to call and make sure we could 1) wear costumes and 2) take pictures, but if that's the case I think this might be a much better place to have a cosplay day and potentially a lot of fun as well. I'm still open to going to Scarborough so if everyone would rather do that we will and we'll plan a MagiQuest day for June or July. So, it's up to you.
I've opened a poll, and I'd like everyone to go vote for either Scarborough or MagiQuest. Please vote if you would actually attend at one or the other place on Saturday, April 26th. Also, if we can't attend in costume - would you still want to go play MagiQuest? http://harrypotter.meetup.com/496/polls/126473/
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and looking forward to our costuming workshop today.
