Dumbledore on Trial

The Wizengamot (wizarding Britain's high court of law) is posthumously placing Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore on trial for crimes against the wizarding world. The Wizengamot will convene on Monday, March 31 at 7pm to discuss the specific violations and to hear evidence both for and against this notable wizard before we officially call for a vote.

*****************************************************

Did Dumbldore violate trust and/or wizarding law to achieve personal desires and we should strip him of his orders of Merlin? Do the ends justify the means? Did he mastermind a plan that saved us all and we should make his birthday a wizarding holiday? Join in on our discussion about Dumbldore's exploits (backstory and all events in the book series are fair game for discussion) and make up your mind regarding Dumbledore's guilt or innocence. All DADA members in attendance will be part of the Wizengamot. We will all take turns whenever we like, testifying as different characters who give evidence one way or another. This could include anyone from well-known characters like Harry, Ron, Hermione, Mr./Mrs. Weasley, Kingsley, and Severus Snape's portrait to made-up characters like Grindelwald's jailer, one of Tom Riddle's classmates, or random auror #25 who happened upon a scene. We could have 5 different people be Harry at different times during the discussion as we discuss various topics. Come with your thoughts and be ready for a discussion with a different sort of fun format!

The results (I think 7 of us were voting?)...
On the count of child neglegence & endangerment: 5 voted guilty
On the count of misuse of ministry artifacts: 2 voted guilty
On the count of lying to ministry officials: 3 voted guilty*
On the count of obstruction of justice: 5 voted guilty
On the count of supporting threats to national security: 3 voted guilty
On the count of being an accessory to murder(s): 3 voted guilty
On the count of harboring fugitives: 5 voted guilty

*the paper says 2 but I KNOW I raised my hand for this one

    The sentencing went as follows...
Dumbledore's portrait will remain at Hogwarts, but it will be the only portrat allowed of the famous wizard; he will not be allowed to move about the Wizarding world from portrait to portrait.
He will ceremoniously be dropped from the Wizengamot and the title will be stripped from him posthumously
He will be allowed to keep his awarded order of Merlin but no new ones will be awarded

All trials should be this much fun. I didn't realize we had so many thespians in the group! Thank you, Kate, for leading the trail. What was the outcome??

The answer is: yes. He was guilty or not. I posted the full count of the results & sentencing just now.

This was such a good idea and was so much fun! I had no idea I had such strong feelings about Dumbledore's character until his trial.

A very fun, thoughtful discussion and some very creative role-playing! I still say the end justified the means #Dumbledore'sArmyForever

Sorry, I am afraid I can't make it today. Getting off late from work. See you in the next one and have fun. You should record this trial in some way.

What a great idea! I've always considered myself pro-Dumbledore, but at the moment, every argument that occurs to me, as any character, would get him thrown into Azkaban! So this should be a wonderfully thought-provoking discussion format. Unfortunately, I can give only a "MAYBE" at the moment. I'm driving home that day from a meeting in Alabama, and I just don't know what time I'll make it to town and what shape I'll be in when I arrive.

Hope you'll be able to make it, but I understand if you can't (that's a long drive). I'm usually pretty anti-Dumbledore but trying to think up arguments has put me back on his side more than not. I'm definitely excited to see where the discussion leads us!
