Goblet of Fire: Discuss!

  • February 1, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • La Madeleine

Greetings! The topic this time will be "Goblet of Fire: The Beginning of the End" and we'll be discussing how the series pivots on this book. Be prepped to talk about how this book expands the Wizarding world including the revealing of the Unforgivable curses, and the themes of deception, isolation, and ... y'no, just be willing to talk about your favorite character, your favorite scene and how you feel this book ranks in your favorites. Also how you feel about how this book was adapted to the big screen. This is my favorite of the books, and I can't wait to chat about it!

**** Due to the snow forecast ****

I am postponing this event to Friday, Feb 1st -

same location and time, La Madeleine's at 7 PM.

We all have a little more time to re-read!

I hope everyone had a great time tonight. I had planned to go, but instead found myself in the ER all evening with a sick child. (Where is Madame Pomfrey when you need her?) My son will probably be fine in a day or two, and I hope to see you all at the next HP discussion.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope he feels better soon!

He was OK over the weekend, and even went to his birthday party on Sunday. But last night he woke up with a high fever, and today he's home again. Still not sure exactly what it is. Some kind of virus, maybe, or a reaction to a vaccination he had last week.

I totally didn't get a chance to say this during the meetup, but the one new thing that popped out at me this time around was how little or how much Neville ever knows. Did anyone ever tell the boy later on there really was a dragon in book 1 and it wasn't just Malfoy's prank? Did anyone ever tell him that he spent some quality bonding time over plant books in a room alone with the death eater who helped the Lestranges torture his parents?

Ooh, jK should re-write the series from Neville's perspective.

I thought about that, but he has similar morals and perspectives as Harry. Wouldn't be all that different, in the end, except with a lot of missing info. I bet no one ever told him he was a possible prophecy baby

A very well led meetup. As we all know, it can be difficult hearing those speaking from the other end of the group and it was, gladly, a large group.

Looks like the bus is going to make me a few minutes late. Apologies!

So glad we have an extra week. I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish re-reading in time! Looking forward to it.

I started re-reading Philosopher's Stone a couple of weeks ago before this meet-up was advertised... so I finished PS, Chamber of Secrets and now I'm currently up to Chapter 10 of Prisoner of Azkaban... so I'm reading every second I get so I can finish Goblet of Fire in time for the meet-up...

There is a possibility of snow/ice for Friday. If we have bad weather or iffy road conditions, we will delay our discussion by one week to Friday, Feb 1st. Stay tuned!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
