Hello fellow DADA-ers,

My name is Kristen. As I told some of you at the games and merchandise meetup this past Saturday, I am a behavioral therapist for children on the autism spectrum. One of a children I work with is a sweet, 11 year old girl who is diagnosed with Aspergers. Myself and the other therapists who work with her were having one heck of a time getting her to read anything that actually had a plot, character development, etc. She just hated doing it and wasn't able to fully engage herself in the books she was reading.

Finally, we tried having her read Harry Potter since she likes fantasy, fairies, and the like. She is absolutely loving it. She gets a kick out of the humor and will stop reading to share things she thinks are particular funny and/or interesting. She's even reading extra on her free time at school now!

As part of her therapy program, she earns 'checks' for completing her work and having a good attitude. Then she is allowed to 'purchase' items from a 'store' with the checks she earns. Unfortunately, finances are a bit tight (for the family and my company) so sometimes it's hard to come up with prizes that she really likes. I am asking for donations of any Harry Potter related merchandise that you may have around your house but not really use/need. Honestly, anything you might have would be greatly appreciated. She is still on the first book (she's about half way through), so I don't yet know which characters she will take a special interest in.

If you have something you'd like to donate, please email me back at [address removed] and let me know what it is. You can bring it with you to a meetup (the next on I'll be attending is Harry's birthday party on July 28th). I would also be more than willing to pick the item(s) up from your house or meet you somewhere in order to get the item(s) from you. (I would actually prefer this, as I would like to get the items as soon as possible so she knows what she can earn and has more incentive to work for it.)

Thanks so much!
