Celebrate the ecosystem "where the river meets the sea!" Our Estuaries Day event begins with with the York River 5K Race sponsored by the Colonial Road Runners. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Lafayette HS Cross Country Team and the Friends of York River State Park. Race registration starts at 7:00 am and the race begins at 8:30. For more information, please contact Craig Worthman at[masked] ([masked]) or Rick Platt at[masked] ([masked]).
After the race, enjoy the day with half-hour paddling on the creek and river, hike and search for fossils, catch interesting creatures with dip and seine nets, or go for a guided ride with the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association (bring your own bike). We will have exhibitors from VIMS, Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve System, Virginia Master Naturalist, Mattaponi & Pamunkey Rivers Association, Peninsula Herpetological Society, United States Coast Guard, and others who care about our estuarine marshes, creeks, and rivers. There will be food provided by the Friends of York River State Park (for a donation). This is a great event for the family and those who have never been to the park before.
