What: Hike the St. Mary?s Wilderness

When: November 14,[masked]:00 PM

Event fee: $3.00 1st timers only

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description:
Many of you know Mark Wenger, AKA "Animal", member of our THRCOA meetup and president of the TATC. He will be leading a trip November 14th - 16th, Friday Evening - Sunday in the St Marys Wilderness section of the gw national forest. Out of respect for Mark and the planning involved in a trip like this, if you don't think you can make the trip, RSVP NO. That said, try to make this trip. It promises to be a nice hike & camp weekend. The details follow. If you have any questions, e-mail Mark and I'm sure he'll be happy to answer them. Thanks, Mark!

The following is Animal's own subjective rating system for you to consider when you want to sign up for one of these trips:

Easy - These hikes are less than 10 miles a day and/or generally moderate elevation gain and loss.
Moderate - These hikes are 10 to 13 miles a day and/or generally have at least one day with major elevation gain and loss.
Strenuous - These hikes are more than 13 miles a day and/or major elevation gain and loss each day.

Rules of the Trips:
Courtesy and respect are paramount. That is how we treat each other and those we meet such as hunters, day trippers, etc...

At times we need people to drive and expect each person to volunteer as needed.

Costs of shuttle and gas is expected to be shared.

Everyone is expected to be responsible for their own food, clothing, shelter, etc...

Practice "Leave No Trace". To the greatest extent possible pack out what you pack in and be gentle on the land.

Children (17 and under) are welcome but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Dogs are welcome if the trail allows them but they must have an adult responsible for them. Vicious and unfriendly dogs are never welcome.

This is an adult group so the language may be colorful and alcohol in moderation is fine. However, if it is illegal at home it is illegal on the trail.

We go regardless of the weather.

Our primary goal is fun, friendship and enjoyment of the outdoors.

Costs: The only out of pocket expenses would be to pay your share of the gas and any meals and shuttle to and from the site.

Call Mark or E-mail him if you have any questions and if you are planning on going on the hike.

Mark Wenger (Animal), will be the leader on this trip. Trip details::

We will leave from Williamsburg Friday evening and pick up anyone in Richmond on the way. We will eat a quick dinner on the road and drive to the trail head for Cellar Mountain Trail park and camp there for the night. This is sometimes known as the upper parking lot for the St. Mary?s Wilderness. On Saturday we will hike Cellar Mountain Trail then to the forest road then to Bald Mountain Trail then to Mine Bank Trail and camp at the ore processing site on the St. Mary?s River. This is about 13 miles but the only major uphill is Cellar Mountain the first thing. On Sunday we will hike up the St. Mary?s Trail to the forest road and back Cellar Mountain Trail to the cars. This is about 8 miles. If you wanted to experience the beauty of the St. Mary?s Wilderness and its unmarked trails this is the trip for you. Call for further information.

Remember: 1st time attendees of our group (and their guests) pay $3.00 (one time only) to keep our web site alive. We do this on the honor system, so BE HONORABLE. Just click the PayPal button, pay once, and forget it forever.
