Location: Sky Meadows State Park, primitive camping facilities only; you must hike in 3/4 mile from the parking area - NO POTABLE WATER!!! Bring your own. You may arrive on the 25th and camp the night before or arrive around 8 or so in the morning on the 26th. YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE WITH THE STATE PARK!

Have you always wanted to be more involved in the great outdoors, but weren't sure how to start? Here's your chance to learn valuable outdoor skills, including how to select and use your equipment, how to plan your outdoor adventure, and much more. Space is limited, so please call ahead to reserve your spot. These workshops are offered in partnership with Blue Ridge Mountain Sports of Warrenton, Virginia. The best trips are those that have all the wrinkles ironed out early. Knowing where you're going, the lay of the land, entry and exit points all make for stress-free hikes. Learn to take steps to make your next wilderness adventure a safe one and learn how to be best prepared for blisters, bug-bites, or even close encounters of the wild kind. Discover the importance of 'Leave No Trace' outdoor ethics and how it applies to all of us.

LOCATION: The park is less than two miles south of Paris, Va., via U.S. Route 50 to Route 17 South; or seven miles north of I-66, Exit 23 on Route 17 North. The park entrance is on State Route 710.

Drive Time : Northern Virginia, 45 minutes to one hour; D.C., over one hour; Richmond, two hours; Tidewater/ Norfolk/ Virginia Beach, three hours; Roanoke, two and a half hours

OVERNIGHT FACILITIES: This park offers hike-in primitive camping (12 sites) and a primitive group camping area year-round. There are no cabins or developed campsites with hookups at this park. Reservations are required.

?The park's main campground has fire rings at the ground level with a metal grate covering about one-third of the top. There are tent pads, pit toilets, picnic tables and non-potable water.
?The main campground is a 3/4-mile hike from the parking area. No vehicles are allowed.
?The group campground accommodates up to 36. Groups of more than 36 must call the park beforehand to make arrangements. The campground has one portable toilet, a fire ring and picnic tables but no water.
?The park closes at dusk so campers must arrive before dusk.

CABINS / CAMPING: None. This park has no cabins or standard campsites, only primitive campgrounds. If you're interested in other parks' overnight accommodations, rental rates for cabins and camping vary by season, offering and park.
