Please join me for a very special evening as we help a dear friend recover from cancer. Johnna Harris has been a devoted employee and Director of Animal Services for the Humane Society of Louisiana for the past 12 years. Johnna oversees all of our intake, adoption and transport programs that involve hundreds of wonderful animals each year, and with her small, hard-working team she supervises the housing, feeding and medical needs of more than 200 animals at our two no-kill sanctuaries. During Hurricane Katrina, Johnna helped us safely transport our 158 animals to a barren 4-acre plot of land and helped us convert the property into a modest staging area. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, we returned to our flooded city and rescued more than 1700 animals. On more than one occasion, Johnna waded through chest-high water, to rescue cats trapped by the high water.
Johnna is also a cancer survivor, but the disease has returned and she is currently undergoing both chemo and radiation therapies, which are weakening her already fragile body. To help Johnna's recovery, I am asking (begging) all 150 of us to drop and show your support and concern for this brave, unsung hero, who has been helping homeless, abused and orphaned animals in our community since 2001.
There will be plates of vegan food and drink specials. You can also order off the menu - the food is delicious.
A donation of cat or dog food, gift cards to Lowe's or Wal-mart and/or get-well cards would be gratefully accepted. Gang, please join me by attending this very special evening for this exceptional individual. Questions? Kindly email me at [masked] or call me at[masked]-4432.
