Dear Friends and Volunteers,
I hope you are all enjoying this carnival season. After Mardi Gras, you may wish to get involved in our Community Pet Watch Program, our new pet protection and anti-crime initiative. Earlier this week, several of our members passed out fliers in the Bywater area.
Katrina Perkowsak and I also recently attended the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Board of Directors meeting, where we were allowed to speak against their policy of using live animals as prizes. Bunnies have been offered as prizes at some of their booth for the past 20 years. In previous years, baby iguanas have been given away as well!
Approximately thirty-five board members were in attendance. In private conversations, several board members said that they would probably discontinue the practice after a 25-year run.
Next Saturday, February 25th, from 11 am to 3 pm, we will also co-host a cruelty investigation workshop in Covingston with a new Northshore humane organization called CARES (Critter Adoption, Rescue and Education Services). The workshop will take place at a conference room in a business office located at 19550 N. 10th Street in Covington.
For more information, please contact me at[masked] or Amanda Roberts at[masked]-9765. The workshop registration fee is $15.00 per person.
Lastly, here is a short list of ways you can help our efforts:
1. Send us your address so we can send you some of our Community Pet Watch fliers that you can pass out in your neighborhood, and you may wish to register to be a neighborhood team captain. We can send you a short list of their volunteer duties.
2. Join our Pet Care Educators program and help us educate students about humane values and proper pet care. New presentations are given on a regular basis.
3. Donate an item (antiques, jewelry, or artwork) to the upcoming National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association meeting. Proceeds will aid wildlife rescue and recovery efforts. Please contact us to make arrangements for delivery.
Please Note: If you hit "REPLY", your message will be sent to everyone on this mailing list ([address removed])
