We recently helped with the confiscation of six malnourished horses in Ayovelles Parish, all within the past two weeks! Many of our rural parishes lack any type of formal or government subsidized animal control or protection services, so it is often up to our group to step in and help animals in distress in these poverty-stricken areas.
However, as you know it is expensive to care for mistreated animals, especially horses. Several rural vets donated their time and services during these seizures, but we still have expenses not covered by their initial exams and treatments. Therefore, I am kindly asking that each of our 200 members to donate $10.00 as part of their membership dues to cover the cost of the care for these six wonderful horses! Checks or money orders can be sent to the Humane Society of Louisiana, P.O. Box[masked], New Orleans, LA 70174 or online through our website at www.humanela.org.
I hope all of you will see this as a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of six horses who are finally receiving great care, proper food and support!
