Every day we are faced with life and death situations involving animals in need, and we often must act immediately to save lives.  In just the last few days we were busy doing the following:

Rescuing this injured dog we named Buck, who was found - slowly dying - along a rural highway near Franklin.  We sent representatives of our newly formed St. Mary chapter to his aid.  Buck is extremely malnourished and is suffering from numerous injuries, including a gunshot wound.

We are seeking donations from the public to defray the cost of his veterinary care, which is so far estimated to exceed $1500.
You can donate to help Buck by clicking HERE.  (Here is the NEWS STORY which appeared in the local paper, before veterinarians concluded he had actually been shot.)

Scheduling workshops and outreach activities to help fight cruelty in 2013.  A meeting of our statewide anti-dogfighting task force was recently featured in an episode of Animal Planet's Pit Bulls and Parolees.

Wednesday morning, one of our New Orleans supporters found a sweet, badly scarred pit bull in her yard - an obvious dog fighting victim - who is now at the vet's office.  We will work to rehabilitate this dog who has suffered so much.
Two Dogs f/Murder/Hoarder Case
Caring for five animals who were left behind at a crime scene when their owner was killed.  Even worse, when we arrived on site, we discovered that it has been a  hoarding situation for years. The three dogs pictured here will come to us as soon as we secure legal custody, and the two cats will go to our Magnolia chapter.

(Johnna Harris, our Animal Services Director, is comforting the traumatized animals.)

Dogs for Transport from Vermillion Helping dogs saved from kill shelters, like these 5 dogs. From left to right, Daisy, is still with us awaiting heartworm treatment; Max and Ginger are two of the 24 dogs heading up north on our adoption transport that left just yesterday.  Star went to a loving home recently and Queenie will head up to a new family next month.  To help fund our lifesaving transports click HERE.

Rallying to find Buddy, a 14 year old blind and deaf family dog, who was abandoned in the woods, in an act of unspeakable cruelty.  Luckily, the perpetrator, feeling pressured no doubt, retrieved Buddy after several days, as we had offered a reward and were convening a search party.

Carrie Mae

Taking action for dogs in trouble each and every day, including more than 150 dogs at our various locations and foster homes.

Carrie Mae, three years old, is now undergoing heartworm treatment at our sanctuary.  If you would like to help our sanctuary dogs click HERE.
