Thank you to those of you who recently responded to our call to pick up an injured pigeon. The bird was rescued by two of our members, but, alas, its injuries were too severe for him or her to be saved. Still, thank you for allowing him to feel comforted and cared for in his moment of need.
Also, please allow mark your calendars for Saturday, April 20th, when we will be hosting or at least participating in two different events. First, our humane agency has been active in combatting dog fighting for more than a decade in our state and more than a year ago, we formed the Louisiana Anti-Dog Fighting Task Force, a committee comprised of more than 50 members of different humane organizations, law enforcement departments and concerned individuals. We share tips, information and strategies on the internet and meet 2-3 times a year to compare notes and review complaints.
If you would like to be invited to attend this informative meeting, please email me at [address removed], and you will receive additional details. The meeting will take place from 10:00 am to 12: 30, and many of us meet for lunch afterwards.
Second, we work closely with and greatly admire the work of a new group, Lovers not Biters Dog Rescue, which is celebrating its one year anniversary next Saturday as well. This hard-working group of smart people, led by Mary Simon, who is also a member of this group, fosters and adopts out pit bull and other bully dogs - a difficult and often thankless job! Biters Not Lovers will be hosting their one-year anniversary benefit party at Evangeline, located on Decatur, downtown New Orleans, on Saturday, April 20th, from 7 -10 pm. There will be drink specials and great silent auction items. Come out and support another great group!!!
