Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Our humane society has worked closely with Representative Tom Willmott (R-Kenner) to help pass House Bill 470, which requires dogs in the back of vehicles on Louisiana interstate highways to be secured in ventilated crates.  The bill is scheduled to be heard on the floor of the Senate chamber during the next few days, so it is important that you participate in the process to ensure its passage.

To find out the name of your state senator and send him or her an email, please visit this website: To read the text of the bill in its present form, please click here:

We need a minimum of 20 votes to pass the bill.  To help our grass-roots lobbying efforts, please contact your state senator immediately to voice your support for House Bill 470.  Impress upon your senator that it is a public safety issue, much like requiring people to wear seat belts.

With best regards,

Jeff Dorson
