Simply cut and paste our latest appeal and forward it to your family, friends and associates.  We operate on a modest budget and have the enormous task of trying to help thousands of animals who rely on us. To help our efforts, please take and minute and help us spread our message across the state and U.S.

We're incredibly busy defending Louisiana's animals from cruelty and neglect and wanted to share some recent results with you.

Diamond 3 Diamond 4
Lovely Diamond, who was tied out in a yard and almost starved to death, is doing wonderfully  after her ordeal. Her abusive former owner was arrested and the case will soon head to trial.   Shelter Manager, Jessica Cameron, will testify.

Evangeline parish:Secured an agreement from Mayor Vidrine of Ville Platte to stop their 'catch and kill' program for feral cats.  In their inadequate dog pound,  terrified felines were housed in traps for days - often in dog runs - before being killed.

Orleans parish:

Offered a reward and spread the word about a series of heinous recent cat killings on the Crescent City Connection. A suspect has been identified by two independent sources and we predict an arrest is imminent.  We will soon host a local summit for law enforcement, concerned citizens and humane officials to address these heinous, ongoing animal killings on the bridge.  WWL-TV LINK

Winn parish:Offered our services to the City of Dodson's Police Department to help four horses who are victims of long-term neglect.  We spoke at length to Chief Ryan Baker and connected him with rescue groups willing to transport and house the horses. We also arranged for a local veterinarian to examine these poor victims of long-term abuse. We are waiting to see if the Chief aggressively pursues this matter; if the local authorities fail to act, we will ensure that state agencies intervene.

Franklin parish:

Took custody of 30 dogs from our rural area chapter, many seized in cruelty cases, to find them loving homes through our ongoing pet transport program. There are few local avenues for adoption in their rural community.

Lafourche parish:

Helped secure a guilty verdict for local breeder/hoarder Warren Michot in an ongoing case involving more than 100 Brittany Spaniels.  The case has outraged neighbors and animal lovers statewide for months. (Featured in the FOX 8 investigative reportHOUNDED, which aired January 2013.)   Our volunteer investigator, Pamela George, testified for 3 hours prior to the guilty verdict.  Michot was found guilty not only of cruelty, but also of failure to vaccinate and noise violations. A new hearing will soon be set to determine custody of the long-suffering animals, and we will keep up the fight to ensure they have a chance at a better life.

Vermilion parish:

We recently took custody of these two ponies - after several neighbors reported that they were the victims of regular beatings and abuse.  Since none of the witnesses were able or willing to come forward and make sworn statements against their abusive neighbor, we purchased the horses for $50 each to remove them from the situation.
