Its hard to imagine what it must be like to lie on a cold, sometimes wet, cement floor during the recent freeze. But many animals are forced to endure this type of treatment in the vast majority of our shelters that are located in the rural areas of our state. Several puppies, in fact, according to residents, apparently died during the cold snap at the Ville Platte Animal Shelter, located about 50 miles north of Lafayette. We submitted a list of our suggestions and improvements to the mayor of Ville Platte more than a month ago, but she has yet to act on any of the items.
To voice your concern and outrage that shelter animals are suffering without heat (it's not that expensive to provide temporary propane gas heaters), please call Mayor Jennifer Vidrine at [masked] and ask that she immediately provide heat at the Ville Platte Animal Shelter.
