Announcing a new Meetup for Friends of the Humane Society of Louisiana!
What: Statewide Meeting of Advocates and Activists
When: July 25,[masked]:00 AM
Musee Conti Wax Museum
New Orleans, LA 70112
We encourage all of you to become active in our efforts to help animals in our community and around the state. We have more than 50 members of the Friends of the Humane Society of Louisiana, but fewer than 10% of this special group of supporters attend our events, respond to emails, or donate their time or services.
We could use everyone's help during these hot summer months, when animals are especially susceptible to abuse and neglect. If you have time or a desire to help, please email or call me any time.
We have several important events that could interest some or all of you. First, we have a need to enlist a few volunteers to distribute flyers to visiting Microsoft employees from Monday to Thursday of this week (7/13-16th). Between 6-7,000 well-paid employees will be visiting New Orleans to attend a conference, and we have designed a flyer especially for them. As you may recall, our shelter was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and we remain one of the few humane groups that did not receive adequate funding to replace its facility. So, we will continue to network and appeal for support at every opportunity. To volunteer to flyer, simply call me at[masked]-4432. It can be on your lunch break or after work!
Second, our group has been working with other agencies since its inception. For that reason, our representatives will be attending the upcoming quarterly meeting of COLAA, the Coalition of Louisiana Animal Advocates. This umbrella agency is comprised of members of different humane organizations, animal control departments, and caring individuals who address animal welfare issues on a statewide basis. Please make every effort to attend COLAA's upcoming meeting and learn the issues from the people on the front lines! The Coalition of Louisiana Animal Advocates is a non-profit, statewide network of individuals and animal protection organizations. Humane treatment of animals is our common goal. The organization was founded in 1981 by Holly Frederick Reynolds.
We believe persistent lobbying and effective laws are the building blocks of a more humane world. We work to form new humane societies, upgrade shelter, and encourage strict enforcement of animal protection laws.
