Join us for the Eighth Annual Day of Reason Celebration!
The National Day of Reason was begun as a response to the federally supported National Day of Prayer, an annual abuse of the U.S. Constitution. Sponsored by MN Atheists, all are invited to join in the Rotunda every first Thursday of May (the same date as the Day of Prayer) to celebrate the First Amendment and remind our state legislators of the importance of separation of state and church.
Speakers will include: Representatives of Humanist of Minnesota, Minnesota Atheists, Military Religious Freedom Foundation and Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
The theme, this year, has been refined in order to make the point that government should respect all points of view and not endorse one sectarian view over any other. The Pledge of Allegiance has changed over the years to reflect the tyranny of a religious majority over a non-religious minority. This event will honor our secular Constitution and secular veterans who took an oath to protect it. The Day of Reason celebration, “One Nation Indivisible," will have speakers on the benefits of secular governance. We will recite the secular Pledge of Allegiance, and Minnesota Atheists will give Certificates of Appreciation to Veterans who will have the majority of the time to speak on their personal views.
If you are a veteran and are attending, please let Steve Peterson know as soon as possible, and your service will be recognized and you will be given the opportunity to speak if you would like. If you know others who might be interested in receiving recognition have them call[masked] or email at [masked]. Bring your friends and family if possible.
