Rock Climbing @ Vertical Endeavors

Join fellow humanists and freethinkers for an afternoon of indoor rock climbing and socializing with personal trainer and ex-West Point cadet, Blake Page, as host. Hopefully this will be the first of many recreational fitness activities we undertake together in the coming months. Whether you’re interested in trying something new, or want to challenge yourself against highly experienced climbers, Vertical Endeavors can provide you with any range of difficulty. For new climbers, a brief instructional class will be conducted by a member of the gym’s staff. For experienced climbers, Blake will be at the ready to belay and assist with top-roping, lead climbing and some friendly competition if you’re up for it. Rock climbing is one of the best ways to test your focus, balance, strength and courage in a safe and controlled environment.

After the climbing, we'll head over to World Street Kitchen at Lyndale and 27th St. --just a few blocks away--for some food and drink.

Blake Page will be serving as our recreational event planner for the coming months.  Having resigned from West Point just last fall, Blake is new to Minnesota and eager to meet other fitness-minded freethinkers while he sets a new career course for himself.  Blake carries certifications as a personal trainer, CPR, AED, rock climbing instruction and Army Combatives (mixed martial arts) instruction and has extensive experience in leading groups ranging in size from 3 – 160 people through prolonged excursions into the wilderness. He has successfully introduced people to the adventure lifestyle who were both sedentary city dwellers and elite competitive athletes.

It was great. Blake was a good instructor. I improved a lot since the first time I was there.

Urgent!! I had some car troubles start tonight that are going to make it very difficult for me to make it tomorrow. Is there any chance I could get a ride there and back? I live in Maple Grove, and would be happy to pay for gas if necessary. I don't have a lot of options and am trying every one of them. If someone could help me out I would be extremely grateful.

Audrey volunteered to pick me up in the morning, but I'll most likely need a ride back after we're done in the evening. Thank you so much!

I just checked out the gym (...seen a lot of climbing gyms, and this one's easily the best I've visited) and got some more info for tomorrow. First, if you want to be able to belay you will have to pass a belay test. It's really basic, and very simple, but they don't allow people to take the test the same day as learning the skills. If you don't know how to belay, and want to be able to tomorrow, I can teach you in < 20 minutes. Give me a call at[masked] sometime this evening and we can work something out. If not, they do have auto-belays that will get you to the top (and back down) but doing it the old fashioned way is much more fun. Parking might be a challenge. It has a very small parking lot and tends to stay busy, so showing up early will help. And lastly, we'll all meet in the lobby at 1. I'll be wearing my old West Point Climbing Team t-shirt to make myself easy to spot. See you tomorrow!

I have an extra pair of climbing shoes (ladies size 9) that I can bring if anyone would like to save a few dollars :)

...oh yeah. I have at least one extra harness and a spare chalk bag. Maybe two, haven't gone through my gear in a while. If anyone needs to borrow it (them?) I'll bring what extras I've got.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
