TED Talk Salon: How to make hard choices

Our TED Talk Salon features a monthly brain-stimulating presentation and lively discussion. If you're a curious world citizen we welcome you to this "video-style" book club.

Join us this month for our 31st TED Talk Salon!

Here's a talk that could literally change your life. Which career should I pursue? Should I break up — or get married?! Where should I live? Big decisions like these can be agonizingly difficult. But that's because we think about them the wrong way, says philosopher Ruth Chang. She offers a powerful new framework for shaping who we truly are.

Socializing from 2:30, Talk played at about 2:50; followed by small group/whole group discussion until 5:00.

Link to preview the talk: click here.

Monthly, we watch a recorded TED Talk by someone notable in his/her field. After viewing the talk, we'll discuss it. All are welcome to attend and share your thoughts, questions, and experiences around the topic.

If you have a special interest in some topic, or see a good TED Talk you think would make for lively and engaging discussion, send your suggestion to the Event Host, Rebecca.

Good topic; great discussion. The only reason I didn't award five stars is that I thought we would have benefitted from more examples.

Lively discussion. Whereas the presenter was not as in depth as some would like; the group conversation more than made up the difference. After meeting was fun as well.

You would have thought any idiot could find the library, but I turned west instead of east onto 55 from Penn and got thoroughly lost. After a half hour, I decided I was too tired to think it through anyway. Sorry I missed it and hope everyone had a good discussion!

I've gotten into a time crunch and can't get there in time by bus. (I don't own a car.) It's not a big decision and I haven't had to agonize over it, but I don't like to show up late. (I don't expect a marriage proposal anyway.) Enjoy.
