I must apologize for the 'blowup' we had on this site earlier in the week. It is the first such incident on our meetup site.
The intent of my original message was simply to inform the group of a opportunity as quickly as I could ... considering the very short window of opportunity to engage with Michael. I had intended that responses go only to me and not to the group as a whole. Unfortunately this, for some, turned into a free-for-all discussion of the political merits of Michael's project.
When we set the site up we were a small group and, we assumed, would attract only respectful people who wished to engage with like minded folks. As such, we left the 'default' option of 'reply to all' in our email setting on.
Now that we have over 1000 members there was always the possibility of some of us being a bit more intolerant and disrespectful of other's mailbox clutter than the population as a whole would like.
We have therefore taken the step of having all email responses routed through the organizers. Those who wish to continue the conversation in an open manner, can do so on our message board.
It is unfortunate that during this short period we lost a few members (less than 1%) who did not have the patience to wait for a resolution (PS: they could have simply turned of the email feature of their membership) but I wish to thank the vast majority for 'hanging in there' and I look forward to seeing you at one of our future meetup events!
