What is it really like being a black atheist in the Bible belt?

Following up on the success of the 2013 Day of Solidarity for Black Non-Believers, this month’s HoH Monthly Gathering will feature a panel of Houston-area black atheists who will share their experience of growing up in religion and eventually coming to leave it behind, as members of the most religious minority group in the most religious region of the country.

The format will be similar to the previous Mormon Experience and Muslim Experience religion seminars, with each panelist having the opportunity to share their personal story, followed by Q&A with the audience.

Our City-Wide Monthly Gathering is the cornerstone of all HOH activities, where people from the entire Houston and surrounding areas are invited to come. We generally start with announcements and a brief presentation of a humanist topic, followed by guest speaker and Q&A/discussion.

Please remember the needy: As part of an ongoing program, we encourage everyone to remember to buy extra canned goods when doing their shopping and set them aside, then bring these cans in with them to the Gathering for donation to the End Hunger network - thanks!
