Talk at WASH MDC monthly "The Cultural Impact of the Modern Humanist Movement."

This is our regular and fairly informal monthly meeting continuing our Fall series.

Brian Magee, communications associate for the American Humanist Association, will speak on: "The Cultural Impact of the Modern Humanist Movement." There are many forms of Humanism and different groups have contributed to the Humanist idea.

The talk will be followed by a snack break where people can socialize and  merge into a Q &A with the speaker.

Handouts about WASH and other secular, scientific and humanist topics will be available.

All are welcome.

Can somebody please tell me if this was a virtual reality meetup? First it was in Olney at 2:00, then it was in Rockville at 1:30, then it was back to Olney again at ?? I won't be providing refreshments and driving halfway around Montgomery County if any more of the foul-ups occur.

This was my first meeting, but when I got there they were all trying to get a hold of you as the librarian had come down to say she had sent you to the other library. Everyone seemed very concerned and tried to reach you. I hope to meet you at the next meeting and let me know if you need help with refreshments. If I can make the meeting, I can also help brings things. I am in Alexandria and new to the area, will try to get to as many meetings as I can. Thanks for all you do!

People might be interested in the video of 2 Capitol Hill briefings with Steven Pinker and Richard Dawkins. Despite the government shut down, both meetings were filled with Congressional staff and others who were interested in hearing the scientists give their answers to questions such as: Is evolution real? Is there life on other planets? Why are there different races? Has society become less violent over time and why? and more. The scientists began by answering questions prepared by the staff and collected from Twitter and Facebook. Questions were then opened up to the audience. Dawkins signed complimentary copies of his book immediately following the briefings.
Let me know if people would like to see an hour of this at the Nov. meeting.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
